Hello friends welcome to Simply Grammatical, Today's topic is "Parts of Speech" Have you imagined how early humans must have been conveying their ideas to each other??There must have been a lot of misunderstanding and misinterpretation.A well developed language with a good script and literature is indeed a boon to mankind .Speech -here it doesn't mean the Speech that is delivered on various ocassions.Speech has its root in the Verb "Speak".The words that are used during conversation are classified according to their definite function or role in the sentence.Now what do you mean by a 'Sentence? Is  a sentence a group of words? Yes of course but what more? Let me give you an example:The Jill up went and Jack hill  -isn't this a group of words??Well yes it is but is it a Sentence?..... So let's put it this way -A sentence is a group of words that makes a complete sense. Now what makes up a sentence?? Yes 'words' What makes a word? Yes '

To hold the thread from where we left let's continue with the same example; Case 1: "Giyan was a better wrestler than any other wrestler of the wrestling tournament." Case 2:"Giyan was a better wrestler than many/most other wrestlers of the wrestling tournament." You can also put it this way:"Giyan was better than any other wrestler of the wrestling tournament.";"Giyan was better than most/many other wrestlers of the wrestling tournament." SIMPLY GRAMMATICAL! Adjectives-Positive degree.. Hi friends, So we had some good discussion on Superlative degree right ?(in my previous blog). Positive degree ..heyy don't think a negative degree is about to follow !The degree that begins with 'No other...'/'Very few ' ....have you used these phrases often? Let's see which case each beginning heralds. Case 1: Unrestricted positive degree: To hold the thread from the  previous examples let us use the same comparisons, "No other wrestler of the wrestling tournament was as good as Giyan." Case 2: Restricted positive degree: Following the above example.. "Very few wrestlers of the wrestling tournament were as good as Giyan" SELF-CHECK!!! Now just try the following : Change into positive degree: 1)Kalidas was the most renowned poet of ancient India. 2)Ujjain was one of the richest cities in India. ..............Best ..of... luck....

Welcome to my page "SIMPLY GRAMMATICAL" We were just discussing the unrestricted and restricted Superlative degree of Adjectives .To make the concept more vivid let me give an example of a competition .Suppose Giyan participates in a wrestling match and wins it we can say that "Giyan is the winner (the means 'the only') of the wrestling tournament" But suppose there is a tie with another player in the final round and the judges decide to give them both a first prize ,you can then say "Giyan is one of the winners of the wrestling tournament."Here please note that the common noun winner is in its plural form.In the above conditions if you have to compare Giyan's wrestling 🎿 skills with those of other contenders in the tournament then it would be this: Case1:"Giyan was  the best wrestler of the tournament." Adjectives and their degrees of comparison . Do you compare objects or people often?? Most of us do.We even try to compare ourselves with others right! Sometimes we compare just two things but at other times we compare a whole group in order to decide who is the' best 'or the 'worst' While comparing only two things or two people we can't be sure about the degree to which a certain quality is possessed unless we have actually seen or percieved the two things or objects or conditions .
